Battle Of Ibirapuera (2010)

“Battle Of Ibirapuera”, presented at the 29ª São Paulo Biennial, is one of the unfoldings of the “Visions of Paradise” and “N Cruzi Lounge” installations. Confetti and streamers were offered to the audience, so they could be thrown, as it happens in the battles during Carvanal, in order to propsoe a shift in the Biennal’s curatorial proposition, from art and politics to a popular celebration as an element of transformation – the politics of happiness. In the installation, blue plastic sheets were used to suggest trails, establishing a relation to the historical exploration expeditions known as “entradas e bandeiras”, which began in São Paulo, while also relating to the palm trees found there. The work relied on the participation of DJ Zé Octávio and musician James Kunja, creating a sound relation to the space.
